5 Best Locations for Photos in Dallas

One of the questions I get asked the most is "where should we shoot?" Dallas has a ton of great locations, and the right one depends on the vibe you're going for. Here are five spots I keep coming back to and why they work so well.
1. Deep Ellum
Deep Ellum is probably the most photographed neighborhood in Dallas, and for good reason. The murals, graffiti walls, and industrial textures give you an endless variety of backdrops within a few blocks.
- Best for: portraits, couples, senior photos, creative sessions
- When to go: golden hour on weekdays when foot traffic is lighter
- What to know: the murals change often, so there's always something new. Parking can be tricky on weekends
The combination of color and grit makes Deep Ellum versatile enough for almost any style, from bright and fun to dark and moody.
2. White Rock Lake
If you want a natural, green setting without driving an hour outside the city, White Rock Lake is the answer. The trails, open fields, and waterfront all provide clean, uncluttered backgrounds.
- Best for: family sessions, maternity shoots, engagement photos
- When to go: early morning or golden hour for the best light and fewer crowds
- What to know: the east side of the lake near the spillway has some of the best light in the evening
I recommend White Rock Lake to anyone who wants a relaxed, outdoor feel without a lot of visual noise in the background.
3. Downtown Dallas / Arts District
The Dallas Arts District and surrounding downtown blocks offer modern architecture, clean lines, and an urban sophistication that works well for professional and editorial-style shoots.
- Best for: headshots, fashion, corporate branding, car photography
- When to go: weekends when foot and vehicle traffic drops significantly
- What to know: the Meyerson Symphony Center and Winspear Opera House exteriors are particularly photogenic
Downtown at twilight is one of my favorite settings. The city lights start coming on and you get that balance of warm and cool tones that's hard to replicate anywhere else.
4. Trinity Groves / Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge
The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge is one of the most iconic structures in Dallas, and the Trinity Groves side gives you a clear view of the bridge with the downtown skyline in the background.
- Best for: couples, engagements, skyline portraits, car shoots
- When to go: sunset, facing east toward downtown for the best light on the skyline
- What to know: the area under and around the bridge offers different angles depending on where you stand. Wind can be a factor on the bridge itself
This is my go-to recommendation when someone wants that unmistakable "Dallas" feel in their photos.
5. Fort Worth Stockyards
Technically not Dallas, but close enough that I include it. The Stockyards give you a completely different aesthetic — rustic brick, western signage, wooden fences, and a historic atmosphere you can't fake.
- Best for: senior portraits, family sessions, couples, anyone wanting a western or vintage vibe
- When to go: weekday mornings for fewer tourists, or golden hour for the best light on the brick buildings
- What to know: the cattle drive happens twice daily and makes for a unique backdrop if you time it right
The Stockyards are one of those locations that photograph well in almost any light, which makes them a reliable choice year-round.
